First vet experience in UK

Today Latte was taken to a vet near home to get kennel cough vaccination as we are considering to use a kennel boarding service while we plan to take a little vacation this summer.

It has been more than 2 years and I've already forgotten what it was like to even THINK about travelling. All the sudden we are here in a place where travelling happens as normal, and the popular summer vacation is coming up, it felt awkward at first, but that feeling of excitement when planning for a trip slowly came back as we talked about a long summer vacation in Italy. Since we were never able to travel after adopting Latte, this is the first time we will be away from her for so long, so we will be testing the water with a boarding kennel before proceeding with the full booking. (the reasoning is that, Latte did grow up in a kennel, and she'll have all the playtime she has ever wanted staying at the kennel). Kennel cough vaccination is needed as part of the kennel's requirements.

There are quite a number of vet available 15 - 45 min walking distance from where we live (all under the same chain). We registered Latte to a nearby vet (a chain), and already got an appointment booked for the next day.

After waiting for about 20 minutes we got directed to see the vet (who actually has a Hong Kong heritage but born in UK!). I was so glad we visited because little did we know the preventive treatment Latte has been on is not suitable for UK environment!

- there's no heart worm in the UK; instead, there's lung worm

- Rabies does not exist!

And so we got the right medication in place and have to discard the ones we brought all the way from HK.

In addition, there's also the health plan available that covers all the required vaccination, preventive treatments, and discounts on vet visits and medicines. 24/7 assistance is also available. The vet was also kind enough to explain how to select pet insurance even though it's not something that they offer.

It's quite a different experience than in Hong Kong where here pets are more well taken care of and by a more structured system. Knowing your dog is being handled by somebody who loves animals truly make a difference!
